Friday Favourites – Albums/Songs to Listen to While Reading – But Actually My First Ever Audio Book

Friday Favourites

Happy Friday everyone! Friday Favourites (I’m Canadian so I’m adding the ‘u’!) was created by the ever-so-wonderful Kibby from Something of the Book. She loves lists, so decided to start her own weekly meme! Make sure you check out her blog for more information, and join in!

This week’s topic is Albums/Songs to Listen to While Reading, but I don’t really listen to music while I read… so instead I’m going to really reach with this week’s topic and instead talk about my First Ever Audio Book!

The Illuminae Files series by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to read more books in different formats. My first conquest was an audio book, and since SO many people talk about how good the Illuminae audio book is, I decided to go with that.

I can now tell you, it is ABSOLUTELY BLOODY FANTASTIC!

It has a full cast and sound effects, and was easily the best choice I could have made for my first audio book. Or… it was possibly the worst because how can anything live up to that now?!

I have read Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff before, but listening to it added a new dimension to it. The story itself is brilliant. The twists are phenomenal, the characters are amazing, and AIDAN is EVERYTHING!

But listening to it was immersive and exciting. The sound effects, the purposeful pauses, the urgent tones. I loved it SO much!

I have now joined the ranks of people highly recommending you check out not only the physical book because the format is intensely cool, but also the audio book because it is brilliantly done!

What is the best audio book you have listened to?

  1. Illuminae is definitely my favorite audiobook ever! I do like the Mistborn books via audio too. And The Crown’s Game has a phenomenal narrator! I mean, I could go on for days about how much I love audiobooks. I’m just glad that your first one worked out so well!!!

    • I felt the same way. To be totally honest, I don’t know when I’ll try another one, but if/when I do, it’ll most likely be Gemina because Illuminae was spectacular. Even though I’ve already read the books, listening to it was such a different experience.
